Peer Education Training for youth workers
Beginning and developing a peer education project can be a daunting prospect, even for the most seasoned of youth workers. That's why we provide free peer education training across Scotland in the form of 1-2-1 consultations, where we'll talk through your ideas, give you some things to think about, and provide you with plenty of peer education resources. All that we ask is you sign up to join SPEN free of charge and then get in touch.
Peer education resources
If you feel confident that you can deliver peer education training to your volunteers without a consultation, then feel free to visit our resources page for manuals and toolkits on peer education and general youth work.
Peer education training for groups
If you're a large group of youth workers, we provide affordable peer education training for groups of up to 20 at a time. Training is tailored to suit the needs of your group, and includes learning about:
- What peer education is and why we do it
- Helping young people develop the skills and tools for doing peer education
- Case studies of different peer education project across the UK
- How to structure a peer education project
- Recruiting peer educators
- Training peer educators
- How peer education supports the Curriculum for Excellence
The above would usually be a full day's training at a venue of your choosing or at our office in Edinburgh, and attendees will be invited to join the SPEN network to receive continued support from the SPEN Officer. We also provide all materials for the day including electronic resources with peer education activities.
If peer education training for practitioners sounds like something you may be interested in, just get in touch with us to find out more.
'I did the training as a group of 20 and it was really great. The day was informative and engaging, and Jay and Simon gave us everything we needed to go forward with our projects.'
Vicky, CLD Worker, Renfrewshire Council
We're also able to offer peer education training to young people at the Fast Forward offices in Edinburgh. Our young people will spend a few hours with your volunteers, training them up in peer education, all for free. The SPEN Officer can then offer you continued assistance with maintaining your peer education project.
